Gift giving is very time consuming not only the shopping time but the energy and thought behind the gift can be exhausting! We hope to share some great gift ideas for everyone in the next couple weeks! But first, lets start with how shopping local doesn’t always mean shopping local! The shop is open today 12 am - 6 pm today, come say hi!
DAY ELEVEN - ASK ABOUT SOURCING BEFORE SHOPPING LOCAL
The ‘shop local’ movement is amazing and has really gained momentum in the last little while! One of the great things about it is you get to speak directly to the maker or someone who knows the maker. But don’t just shop local because it feels good, ask questions and educate yourself about where they are sourcing materials for their handmade products. Keeping all of us accountable is the only way we are going to change to a more sustainable circular economy.
Upcycle definition: reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original.
Here are some gift ideas we have in the shop where upcycling is taking place!
Handwoven by Maureen Rag Rugs (made from upcycled cotton sheets), Sew Oiseau Lunch Pack (made from upcycled wool blankets), and A Warm Pair (upcycled wool sweaters)
Sew Oiseau Change Pads (made from upcycled wool blankets) and Ouistitine Teddy Bears (made from scraps from the fashion industry)
Hope our guide helps to bring you a more Slowly Made Christmas,
